Launched in 1983, fashion house Lolita Lempicka acquired its unique name when founders Josiane Pividal and her husband Joseph created their label as a dual tribute to Vladimir Nabokov’s famous novel, "Lolita," and to the Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka. The couple opened their first boutique in 1984, in the Marais district of Paris. Although Josiane's designs are often inspired by the 1940s, they always strike a playful balance between the modern and the nostalgic. She became famous for her exquisitely tailored suits, infusing classical Parisian styles with fresh femininity.
In addition to her feminine, glamorous collections, in 1997, Josiane created her first women’s perfume "Lolita Lempicka". Her first fragrance was bold, poetic and inspired by fairytales. Today, it is considered as one of the world’s most successful perfumes in the last ten years. The perfume won Best Fragrance, awarded jointly by the Fragrance Foundation and the American FIFI. She went on to create more perfumes including "Lolita Lempicka au Masculin", "L" and “Si Lolita”.
